The Concept Behind It
Let the Air Sing.
The transmission of sound waves requires a medium capable of carrying mechanical oscillations. In the context of music reproduction, this medium is air. Air exhibits numerous physical properties—such as pressure, temperature, humidity, and compressibility—but most critically, it possesses mass: approximately 1.3 kg per cubic meter.
This mass is substantial. A small room of 30 m² contains around 100 kg of air; a concert hall may contain upwards of 20,000 kg. By contrast, the moving masses of loudspeaker diaphragms range from less than a gram in tweeters to over 100 grams in large woofers. These comparatively small oscillating surfaces are tasked with exciting vast volumes of air, often with limited efficiency and control.
Our research began with the observation that certain crystalline structures influence the perception of sound—a phenomenon initially noted during a studio redesign involving rose quartz. When the crystals were removed, the acoustical qualities of the room reverted, and the effect proved repeatable across different listeners and time periods.
Following years of empirical testing, we identified two effective methods for activating these crystals to influence room acoustics in a consistent and reproducible manner:
