The Stateline Phono 2 Pre-amplifier has the following features:
Discrete matched FET Input stage. Discrete single ended Mos-FET output stage. All is fully working in Class A.

RIAA equalization is done passively for high frequencies and actively for low frequencies. Both RIAA networks are completely separated from each other. External raw power supply, so that no transformers which might create the smallest hum are located in the main housing. Internally, a special discretely-built ultra low noise voltage regulator with LEDs does an excellent job.

The signal path is extremely short due to the use of a double sided PCB with SMD parts on one side and through-hole devices on the other.

No use of any ceramic capacitors in the whole circuit. The complete board including all components is lacquered with SteinMusic Maestro lacquer to optimize mechanical resonances.

MM: Input capacity switchable 0pF, 82pF, 150pF or 232 pF
MC: Input impedance switchable between 25R and 47K in 50 steps
Amplification 60dB MC, 40dB MM

Will work fine with Aventurin 6, however it suits well with every other cartridge as it is very easily universally adjustable.

The Stateline Phono 2 Signature

The Stateline Phono 2 Signature version is additionally equipped with a special power supply upgrade board. This board only carries the best foil capacitors, vacuum capacitors and numerous oscon capacitors in a very balanced configuration which perfectly suits the Stateline Phono 2 amplifier.

Just as the main circuit board of the Stateline Phono 2 amplifier, the complete Signature board including all components is lacquered with SteinMusic Maestro lacquer to optimize mechanical resonances.

Some SteinMusic InLine Silver is implemented into the power supply, which significantly reduces magnetic distortions.

Finally we are working with technology used in our E-Pads to get closer to perfection with the overall results.
All these features bring the potential of the Stateline Phono 2 onto a much higher level of quality.

The Stateline Phono 2 Signature Supply

The non-compromising construction of this preamp immensely profits from the Stateline Phono 2 Signature Power supply.

Dealing with extremely small audio signals generated by the cartridge, low noise is essential for rediscovering every fine detail of the record. We took extremely great care to get away from mains noise and distortions by using three transformers.

Two of them are working as isolation transformers which effectively filter noise starting at 120Hz.

The combination of the Stateline Phono 2 Signature and the Stateline Phono 2 Signature Power supply provides u with a musical experience that is state of the art for a relatively small investment.

How to use The Stateline Phono 2

If using an MC cartridge, set it to MC which is the ON position.
Then with Switch 1 – Switch 7 you may choose the impedance that fits for your cartridge.
Capacity switches should be both off for MC operation, as MC cartridges normally do not
need any capacitive loading.

If using an MM cartridge, set the middle of the block of three switches to MM, which is the off position. Then set all impedance switches to off, which results in an impedance of 47K which is perfect for MM cartridges.

MM cartridges sometimes like to be loaded with some more than the cable capacity of the turntable interconnect, so we have added two switches:
S 8 and the upper one of the block of three switches.
S8 in the “off” position and the upper one of the block of three switches in the “off” position No additional capacity loading
S8 in the “on” position and the upper one of the block of three switches in the “off” position 82pF loading
S8 in the “off” position and the upper one of the block of three switches in the “on” position 150pF loading
S8 in the “on” position and the upper one of the block of three switches in the “on” position 232pf loading depending on the way the Earth from the grid is terminated on the other components of the audio system, it may be useful to connect the GND connector to Earth for most quiet operation.

The Basic Idea behind the Stateline Amp 2

LINE STAGE

At the line stage we started according to Einstein’s statement “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler” with a one transistor only circuit and zero negative feedback. This sounded beautiful with an extreme selection of active components so that it works properly as intended.

THD are mainly second order in the region of 0.2%, which we personally prefer over a lower percentage of distortions when they are 3rd or 5th order. Lower distortions mean more real information- If they do not go hand in hand with higher transient intermodulation caused by negative feedback. So we ended up with a circuit using two transistors where the second one works as an error correction amplifier, which is not in the actual signal path.

We do not have any feedback from the output of the line stage to the input with all its negative aspects, however, we could lower THD of this stage to 0.001% maintaining the aspect of having mostly 2nd order distortions.
Listening comparisons show that much more musical information became present being two magnitudes further away from the distortion level with this concept.

Power amp

Normally being friends of discrete transistor circuits, we decided to go for the advantages of the shortest possible signal path of an integrated solution.

The output stage runs in a bridged circuit mode, which means there are two amplifiers per channel and the speakers plus and minus terminals are tied between these two amplifiers.

Hence there is no current flow on the ground plane, which is very positive for low level resolution as ground is the reference point for all signals.

Another aspect is an improved dampening of the speaker, being pushed and tied by two amps.

Volume control

Remote controlled custom made Alps Pot with linear characteristics which has a significantly better matching between channels than any log pot. It has special taps, where adding a resistor of a dedicated value we may convert the characteristic perfectly to the characteristics of the human ear, without the disadvantage of poor channel matching that in the nature of a log pot.

Power supply

The power supply is another basic part with significant sonic influence on the overall sound. After trying out different topologies, it turned out that a professional switching power supply we developed was a perfect match and sounded much better than various transformer-based solutions and other switching power supplies we tried.

All stages are decoupled by 5 different voltage regulators, using low noise discrete circuits for the line stage and DAC. Total power supply capacity besides the basic SMPT is more than 36000μF combined by different types of caps that have been chosen by their sonic performance at each place. 

DAC

The DAC is a non-oversampling concept, providing bit correct performance and may be fed via SPDIF or USB. Stateline Amp 2 accepts sample rates till 96KHz. Finally, the Stateline Amp 2, despite its small size, is a hi-fi high-end amplifier.

Stateline Amp 2 Signature

Based on the Stateline Amp 2, the Signature version has been further refined as a signature version.

The performance and circuit data remain identical, the design is supplemented with extra OsCon capacitors and E-Pads and important components are additionally treated with Maestro lacquer. The acoustic result is even finer, freer, more natural and more vivid.

Resonances are present in all audio equipment. If we dampen them, we not only dampen resonances but also acoustic energy that is needed. If we isolate audio components, resonances stay inside pretty long and destroy the sound. So it is a good idea to give them a way out of those components to let them go to earth. At this gateway it often comes to reflections between components and stands. Naturals on the one hand help to get rid of unwanted resonances in the components, on the other hand avoid reflections from the stand. Naturals are able to „earth“ the components they carry in a stable but subtle way. On the contrary cones reduce energy transfer by a small surface, and rubber feet store energy and dispense it later again. String concepts are another approach.These may sound fine, but do not ground the components which often means that sound is fine but without structure.

Super Naturals Basic

Super Naturals are very special feet for components and speakers. They are made of American walnut, ceramic elements and felt pads. Ceramic has a very fast energy transfer. The felt pads are normally dampening, but we vacuum impregnated them with a very special lacquer that stabilizes them and turns the sound to tight, but convenient. American walnut gives the whole composition a very natural sound. Super Naturals are highly precise components. It takes 80 process steps for these items to be completed.

Super Naturals Plus are SteinMusic´s latest and most sophisticated feet for components and speakers. They come in sets of three: two are made of African Zebrawood, the third is made of Italian Olivewood. They contain special ceramic elements, felt pads and perfectly adopted woods. Ceramic has a very fast energy transfer. The felt pads normally are dampening, but we vacuum impregnated them with a very special lacquer that stabilizes them and turns the sound to tight but joyful. The carefully selected wood gives the whole composition a very natural sound. It takes 120 process steps for these items to be completed.

Super Naturals Signature

Super Naturals Signature are SteinMusic’s latest and most sophisticated feet for components and speakers. They come in sets of three: two are made of African Zebrawood, the third is made of Italian Olivewood. They contain special ceramic elements, felt pads and work on the level of quantum physics. Ceramic has a very fast energy transfer. Felt pads are normally dampening, but we vacuum impregnated them with a very special lacquer that stabilizes them and turns the sound to tight but convenient. The carefully selected wood gives the whole composition a very natural sound. Same does the quantum physical approach. It takes 130 process steps for these items to be completed. Sonically, they have a similar signature as the Basic Naturals, but play more open and free.

How to use THE Super Naturals

The side with the silver metal ring should always point. They are universally useable under all audio components. Starting at a CD player or a turntable, followed by the amplifier up to the speakers. Always use Naturals instead of the original feet, so that they may directly couple the housing to the ground. If the original feet are higher than the naturals, please remove them. A set of three always has good contact and so may transfer energy perfectly. In some applications, you will not get around using a set of four. These are also available and you may even get singles if necessary.

Note

If you have a component with a heavy device at one side, place one olivewood Super Natural Plus directly where the heaviest part is. Then use two zebrawood Super Natural Plus to balance the device out so, that these two feet carry about the same weight. This must not necessarily end up in a symmetric placement of the feet, but is very important to achieve the best results.

Super Naturals Plus are very stable when you put a heavy weight on them, but somewhat sensitive against shearing forces. Always place  components directly from the top. A set of three is good for components up to 150Kg. This makes them suitable also to be placed under a complete rack, which is sonically highly recommended.

Blue Sun

Steinmusic Blue Suns and Blue Suns Signature are the latest development of the Steinmusic Harmonizer System, and have a very strong impact regarding good room acoustics. They work best in combination with the Harmonizers, but already used alone are a very powerful tool.

Blue Suns will give good results directly when mounted in a room. However the perfect placement will improve things in a significant amount, so that we suggest taking some time to optimize the placement. We suggest the use of some good recordings of unamplified instruments and natural voices, as here it is easiest to hear when the positions and proportions of singers and instruments gets more realistic.

Put the Blue Sun Signature Upgrade version below a regular Blue Sun to achieve the same effects as the Blue Sun Signature version.
